About the Author

Christopher L. Heuertz is founding partner of Gravity, a Center for Contemplative Activism, which exists to nurture the integral connection between Christian spirituality and activism. He and his wife Phileena Heuertz spent nearly twenty years traveling to over seventy countries working for women and children victimized by human traffickers in the commercial sex industry with Word Made Flesh, an organization that serves Jesus among the poorest of the world's poor and for which Chris served as International Director. Heuertz began his journey with social justice ministry in 1993, when he volunteered for several months in Kolkata, India, with Mother Theresa and the Missionaries of Charity. Heuertz married Phileena in 1996 they moved from India to Omaha, Nebraska, the headquarters of WMF where they now live. Overall an excellent read. Focuses on the importance and impact a true friendship with those who live at the margins can make. Friendships void of agendas. Friendships void of paternalism. Relationships that grow each other. I didn't agree with all of the material. As one who lives and works among the poor in Albania, I am not convinced yet that I have come here to make friends. Is that truly my mission? Did I sell everything, quit my job, and leave America to come to Albania to make a bunch of friends? Or, did I come here to make disciples and help the poor? In the Great Commission, Jesus doesn't tell us to go into all the nations and make friends. He tells us to make disciples. And, while I am certain that friendships will be made in my endeavors, I am not convinced that is my priority. However, one thing that I have learned the most from in this book is the importance of doing community with those I am reaching. The importance of getting into their world and allowing them to come into mine. That we are here to serve and love each other, and to grow together in Christ. More importantly, that I need to spend more time with the people I serve and not make them my project.Overall, this a book that I highly recommend to those who are doing ministry among impoverished people groups. And, as with any book take it with a grain of salt, where I am certain you will glean some wisdom and wonderful insights from this book.

This fantastic book reframes what it means to minister to people. I have recommended it to many friends. It flies in the face of a "drive-by-ministry" method and leads us to join God on his quest for friends.

So much of what is written echoes my own firsthand experience and encourages me to continue to pursue true relationships with diverse people.

Through this very important book, Chris Heuertz & Christine Pohl help readers to understand Jesus' model for service and mission with fresh eyes and hearts. For those of us who have reaped the benefits of majority, power, and wealth, though, this book can also be pesky. LIke the captivating story about a red button-down shirt which Chris bought at The Gap, only to discover that his friend Sujana in south India labored daily for miserly wages in the factory that produced the shirt. Saddened and convicted, Chris recalls seeing the Isaiah 3:14 injunction against plundering the poor much more vividly, in light of that red shirt. I, in turn, have often found myself thinking back to that red shirt, over the past days.The authors fearlessly move through many issues that are difficult to frame or discuss, but integral to living life at the margins. Issues like moral callousing, need/solution mentality, hunger pornography, cause-driven models of missions, the career missionary paradigm, the awkward relationship between friendship and possessions, and much more. And rather than lapsing into theory, the authors continually bring the issues down to earth.The best example is a Personal Retail Equality Tax (PRET) that Chris assesses to himself. He puts aside 12% of all purchases in a fund, which accrues until Chris' next trip to India, when he gives the money to Sujana. He admits that his PRET is symbolic-- just as important for how it affects Chris as for how it helps support Sujana or address systemic poverty. None of the problems, or the suggested solutions, are treated superficially. I know, though, that I am much the better for having been escorted so fearlessly, faithfully, and humbly into the complexity.

I really tried to like this book. But just from explanations, it seems hard to grasp the concepts.I learned more from youtube videos than reading this book.The book is actually ok, it just lacks the videos. Would probably been a 4-5 star review if it came with dvd. Or if they had online access pass.Maybe in the 90s this book could have been the best thing out there, but we are in 2014. With a lot of free and good content, i regret buying this book.

Absolutely well done: well organized and well presented. Lots of valuable drills are explained to help build confidence. It's obvious the author is drawing from her teaching expertise because her writing reveals her understanding of the perspective of the novice. I have very few concerns after going back and forth between reading and practicing. I print out a list of her drills, stuff them in my pocket, skate over to a school parking lot and start practicing. The book is easy to research and use either as a tutorial or as a reference - it's all there.

The most complete guide on, comprehensive step-by-step, In-Line skating lessons. It takes you from beginner to advanced intermediate in the safest way. The fear of falling is gone; you learn how to fall and get up properly. The Yoga poses are very helpful for balance, strength and increased range of motion. Chapter 7 teaches you how to stay fit with "roll-aerobics". Key terms, skate maintenance, safety, etc. are all covered. If a DVD on the skating techniques accompanied the guide on "GET ROLLING" it would obliterate every in-line skating manual.

This book has a nice way of introducing the first time skater to inline skating, as well as giving the intermidiate skater some valuable tips for the next level. I like that the book has been updated to the third edition. This is promising as it was not a one time write, and the author continues to add improvments to the book. If you are looking for a book that breaks down the movements in an easy to understand format, this book is helpful.

This book has very well written instructions to learn in-line skating from the beginning. It has been very useful for me to get some background before heading to a formal skating course. It is nice that the book also contains advice on equipment and related magazines.I think it should have further figures because many drills are difficult to understand by only a written description.

I bought this book a few days ago and I still didn't cover it all, but as far as I read it's a very instructive book. It's very well explained with a concise a clear language and I'm sure it's helping me to improve my skating skills in the last weeks.I really recommend it to every beginner in-line skater.

Bruce C. Brown was born in Bayshore, New York, but moved around quite a bit in his youth, finally settling down in Silver Springs, Florida. His middle son, Jordan, is a graduate from the University of Florida and earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence at the University of Texas School of Law and is an Assistant District Attorney in Texas. His youngest son Colton graduated from the University of Florida and is serving as an Operations Specialist in the U.S. Coast Guard. Bruce has been happily married to Vonda for 32+ years and is currently serving as Commanding Officer, U.S. Coast Guard Base Elizabeth City, North Carolina.During his Coast Guard career, Bruce was recipient of the highly prestigious Douglas A. This is a light pop-philosophy book with some interesting ideas. I think it would be a great read for a young person with an inquiring mind who was just getting into deeper philosophical concepts.If you're into philosophy, you'll recognize a lot of ideas here and will have probably seen them explored much deeper in other difficult (and less enjoyable to read) texts. This is the reading equivalet to hanging out with a smart friend over drinks; you're not going to solve any of the universe's great riddles, but you'll point a few out.Adams sprinkles in some good old-fashioned advice that's worth paying attention to. I enjoyed that stuff best of all because it gets philsophy back to the one question that really matters, "how do you live a good life?"

I loved this book.Bought the Kindle version and read it one enthralled, introspective evening. I am a fan of Dilbert and had previously read Adams' great The Dilbert Future which veers from the expected satire of office life and nerds (Scott Adams is clearly one of us) and into the realm of technology, metaphysics, and philosophy. In God's Debris Adams' expands on some of the thoughts expressed in that book.It is important to note that Adams is not trying to persuade anybody of anything with one notable exception. This book is not about God, or religion, or science per se. This book is about critical thinking. This book is about questioning everything, especially our own assumptions. In fact, the opinions expressed here are not even his own, but are what he perceives to be the "simplest explanation" for the universe and it's mysteries as per Occam's razor.It has been days since I read this book and as advertised many of the thoughts and statements presented have stuck in my crawl. I find myself turning those concepts over and over in my mind as I eat my breakfast or commute to work. It would be an understatement to say that this book is food for thought. This is a Saturday night buffet with dessert bar for thought.If you are a thinker, someone who likes big ideas and exploring possibilities then keep an open mind and give this book a try.

Started reading this last night before bed, woke up and finished it at the coffee shop this morning. I'd read a couple chapters, put it down, pick up the debris that was blown out the back of my mind. I'd then pick up the book and start where I left off. I would love to say that this book changed the way I look at things, but it's entirely too soon for that. I will say that it gave me to the tools to change. It's now up to me to apply effort to the tools and make the change happen. I look forward to seeing things in a different light and fully intend to make use of the idea's that have spawned from reading this book. I will be passing this book on to my friends, both in the physical sense and the spreading of the idea's it has given me.

Curiosity about what THIS is all about did not strike me until I reached my 40's and at that time it was just a general, fleeting discomfort with what I thought I knew to be true. It wasn't until we lost our oldest daughter to suicide in 2012 that I began my journey in earnest and out of necessity to remain sane for the rest of our adult children. I made it my occupation to learn as much as I could about the nature of reality, life and death.In the intervening two years, I've read countless books of this nature so the 'shocking' premise of God's Debris was not shocking in the least for me. However, I do believe it has great merit for those people who're just beginning their own journey of discovery. This book is a great point at which to jump off the God Wagon that we've all been so conditioned to accept as the only ride in town. It attempts to wake awaken the consciousness by illustrating the weirdness surrounding scientific declarations proposed as truth and that is a great thing.I don't feel that this is a great fit for anyone who is very well-read on these topics and has been exposed to an abundance of progressive lines of thought regarding the nature of God. I found it well-written and enjoyable albeit very elementary compared to much of what I find myself reading nowadays.

Also, if you have ever even dabbled in the history of World War II, this book will be embarrassingly remedial. For example, it gives you the most basic information on such historical figures as Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Josef Stalin, Dwight Eisenhower and Adolf Hitler, as though you had never even heard of them.There is a very limited amount of time spent on a few fringe figures that touched the life of Patton, but by and large, this is as basic as basic gets. The case for a conspiracy which led to Patton’s murder is not completely out of the question, as Patton was not a popular fellow in many circles and the Soviets, in particular, were (and are) not averse to the practice of political assassination. The event that led to his death however (a low speed automobile accident), was such a non-event, that it is hard to believe that clandestine operatives of any competence would stage an automobile accident that was so insignificant that the five other occupants of the two vehicles did not even require the most basic medical treatment. Some drunken soldiers commandeered an army vehicle and crashed it; not exactly hard to believe.In any event, if you have never seen the movie Patton, and have no historical background in the events and persons involved in World War II, I guess this could be an enlightening and educational read. Otherwise, it is old hat.

This book would have been loved by the General and hated by his superiors because what Eisenhower- because of his political bias, missed the true genius of Patton. One does have to wonder about how Patton passed because the very folks Eisenhower warned against--the Military Complex-- did not want Patton returning to the US and giving his view of the European WW II. One has to wonder if there would have been a Cold War if Patton's view of the Soviets as the next enemies would have been followed. On the other side of the coin, Patton was a true warrior who walked the walk of many before him from Roman times on. How well would have Patton survived in a peaceful world. My uncle served under the General during the Battle of the Bulge and while he never spoke about D-Dy or the Battle itself, he had unwavering respect for the General.

This was a relatively OK primer on Patton and some of the other key figures in the ETO. If you are looking for something more than Wikipedia but don't want to get bogged down by actual analysis or critical thinking, this would be an OK book.There is *nothing* in the book concerning any of the intrigues or theories around the possible assassination of Patton. Vague references are made as to why he may have been targeted, but you could have applied the same conjecture to most any senior general from the same era and generated the same result. The overarching theme of the book is "Patton irritated a lot of people with his success and sometimes ill-chosen words" - there is nothing to follow up as to who may have been involved or why.

The only thing in the entire book about Patton's death was in the last few pagesthe book was a boring account of world war two. I would swear that much of thecopy was from "Killing Hitler" or some other O' Reilly book I read recently. If youare looking for any mystery or intrigue about Patton's death forget it.

Poorly written, inconclusive in so-o-o many ways. Do not waste your money

I was very disappointed. Granted there was a noticable gap , or omission in the investigation following the collision causing Gen. Patton's death but the book does no follow thru. Hints and enuendo of some dark conspiracy, national or international left me very diaappointed.

It was an ok read, however i purchased this book with the desire to read about the "Killing of Patton". It was a nice historical book that gave some surface information on battles fought in the war and some of the key personnel, but it lacked the very thing i purchased it for. As I continued on and on in the book i kept hoping i would finally come to the spot that would address the "Killing of Patton". I believe there were a total of 1 or 2 pages at the end that referenced the killing of Patton. Either not enough research was done to adequately write this book or there isn't enough information out there. If the latter is the case don't write a book and charge people money for it. It really deserves no stars as I feel it deceived me in the purchase.

Things I never knew about Patton, Eienhower, and other WWII military leaders. Patton, I conclude, was assassinated for "going against the grain" of international politics. Read it and see if you concur.

This is yet another in O'Reilly's series of "killings." Like the others, he brings forth conspiracy stories and well develops them. If you're not into conspiracy theories, this one is difficult to accept. Having read many biographies on General Patton, I found O'Reilly's depiction as possible, but not overly believable.
