Like Dr. Georgia Young, I found myself on a mission. She was trying to find herself and I was trying to find a way to connect with the characters and the plotline. I'm still lost!

I have read all of her books. This one was too slow and boring.I like that she makes her characters feel real, but the story just wasn't enough to keep me reading. I finished the book because I wanted to challenge myself, but I skipped boring paragraphs.

I am a Terry McMillan fan and have been since Mama in paper back. I was so glad that she had a new read out I pre-ordered mine and read it from cove to cover.. I don't think there are enough words to describe this book it was great it makes me think so much about my friends and the bay area. It also should help anyone enjoy the differences in their friendships and enjoy each other. I bought two as gifts to my friends. Thank you Terry M

I have always been a huge fan of T.M. so it pains me to say how awful this book was. The main character was shallow and uninteresting. The story lines (and there were many) were choppy and unbelievable. It was like reading Instagram posts, disjointed. Unfortunately I'm a true fan so I will more than likely buy what she puts out next. Just hoping she gets back to the way she used to write.

The book started off slow and I kinda lost interest. I continued reading and it eventually picked up the pace and my interest. I am also going through a change in my marital status and feel alone and wondering what should I do and how to reinvent myself. This book felt as if she were reading my mind and heard my conversations. It gave me hope and a new motivation to stay on the path I am on and see what lies ahead of me. I almost forgot until I read this book. Great Read!

It was a boring book. There was no plot development. It had little character development outside the main character and her BFF. I could not believe this was a book written by the author. I appeared to be a rush job to fulfill a contract. Very disappointed.

From the synopsis of the book, it sounds like the protagonist is going to go on this wild adventure searching for the spark that she lost; unfortunately the interesting journey doesn't occur until the last 20 or so pages in the book. There are too many mudane side stories that are discussed. The main character is very likeable and you take a vested interest in her self explanatory journey. However, the book was a very slow start, meaning, the story did not become interesting until about 3/4 of the way through the book. By the time the story turns its focus back on the main character, the story ends. I'm not sure is McMillian ended the book in that manner in an effort to pique interest in a sequel. If so, if the new book picks up toward the end, I would read a second novel picking up where this story left off. I would not recommend this book if you are looking for a romance novel nor if you are looking for ways to find your lost spark in life. The beginning the book will leave annoyed and hoping that the next chapter will be the chapter that something exciting happens. out of the 352 pages in the book, the last 100 or so pages were the best part of book. To have to spend 2/3 of of the book muddling through boring and seemingly unnecessary side stories about various people in her life, this make the book not worth the investment. I will say again that, once the story picked up, It becane interesting and I would read a sequel. However, if the sequel is organized like this book (2/3 of the book is boring and unnecessary) then I am not looking forward to it.

Excellent, could not put it down. Read it, in 2 settings. Enjoyed the themes involving friends, family, hope, the importance of never giving up on love, parenting successfully, and you can always change your mind regarding your life work. Recommend this for seasoned women and young women, on there way to the seasoned woman stage. For young women to understand that you will make mistakes but hopefully those mistakes will not cripple your success. Choices are good and you have to live your life the way and manner it is best, for you and you only.

The beauty of Devi's work is that she (re)presents a cosmology which is not only classic - primitive in a sense - but eternal and still important for any age, thus ageless. Any person who has a sense that things really aren't right in the world would benefit from a read of this book. Although it is somewhat 'heady' it is not so abstract to make it incomprehensible. This work is truly a wonder as it brings out a meaning to life which is precious - strong, empowering, and hopeful. That just as we can understand the cycles of nature, we can understand the greater cycles of existence in a cosmic way.Devi first presents the characteristics of the Men 'in time, above time' and 'against time'. Ghenghis Khan is the quintessential man in time - a man driven by will, but not driven by any higher purpose but to will for himself. Akhnaton is the quintessential man 'above time' - a man who is driven by will who creates with purpose, but his purpose is so high that he goes over the heads of those around him who are lost in time, thus his creation is doomed to disappear after his leading will leaves the sphere of time. Then there is the Man against time - the quintessential embodiment represented in the Man of the 20th century, Adolf Hitler: a man possessing characteristics of a man 'in time' who is driven by Will, but also a Man 'above time' who creates with a higher purpose, thus making him a Man against time. A man against time will appear during the age of dissolution during the time cycle - during the time of decay - and with an indomitable Will create that which is built upon higher ideals against those of the time. To Devi, Hitler was more Light than Lightning - he spared those who continued their fight when he could have utterly destroyed them (i.e. the compassion for the English at Dunkirk). Hitler and the People of National Socialist Germany are an image of what is to come - both a harbinger of 'good' to those whose souls desire the Eternal Laws, and a harbinger of 'bad' to those who revel in the disregard for those Laws. Devi then discusses the Man to come who will be equally both Lightning and the Sun - the Man who will return, Kalki, The Avenger. Each of those who are in current time are left to decide their fates according to their choices - it is a question of who will stand when the New Age begins - when the complete Cycle begins again.This is but a simple and incomplete description of the contents of 'The Lightning and the Sun' - it does not compare to the depth and poetry of Savitri Devi's marvelous work. Whether one wishes to believe her premises and her conclusions - her philosophy - one will certainly be fascinated by its content. This is an exceptional read.

Savitri Devi makes you think. I've always regarded the intensity and longevity of the anti-Nazi hate phenomenon as something suspicious. Most alleged or ostensible villains fade into "history" (textbook narratives) within a few decades. But the animus against Hitler and the Nazis has been kept alive and, if not fresh, at least vigorous. One would be right to wonder why that is so.It turns out that the Jews have been profiting from Holocaust propaganda, probably far more than they should have profited. It might also be the case that Hitler was the good guy in the Second World War, and that if England and America had been wisely and honestly led, they would have joined forces with Germany to put an end to Communism, rather than take sides with the USSR to put an end to National Socialism. That might have led to a global cultural renewal of humanity, instead of its taking a downward cultural trend toward degeneracy, as actually did happen.

This is waaaay better than it has any right to be. I’m a huge Conan fan, but I’ve never gotten into Wonder Woman. Somehow they pulled this off and it’s great. The overall story isn’t the most original but it plays out so good and the characterization is fantastic. It’s a high note for Dark Horse’s Conan to end on but I’m really disappointed the main Conan story I’ve followed for 14 years won’t be resolved. But that’s another matter entirely. Between the two Red Sonja crossovers and now this one, mixing Conan with other properties for these one off stories seems to work really well.Pay attention Marvel! We all fear you will find a way to bring Conan into modern continuity but if he must crossover then take note of this. A Conan/Thor series could work if you leave Conan in his proper time period.Anyway, this book was excellent. So much better than expected. Any fan of the Dark Horse Conan knows what a roller coaster ride it was. The highs of Busiek to the lows of Wood and all places in between, this book counts among the highs. Recommended!

This story is like Simone got a second crack at the Ends of the Earth storyline and decided to do it right. This is a more richly imagined tale that's really compelling. The villains are great, There's a rich cast of supporting characters. The world is detailed and deep. A very enjoyable read.My only complaint is that this is really a Conan story, with WW mostly along for the ride. As a WW fan, I would've liked to see more of her story come out in the book. This doesn't ruin the book, but it feels like a missed opportunity. Still recommended, but I think if you go in knowing about that limitation, you'll probably be more satisfied with the story as a whole.

This is one of the best crossover comics I have ever read with a seamless introduction of Princess Diana of Themyscira into the world of Conan the Barbarian! The story is great, the artwork is amazing, and Wonder Woman makes a incredible sword and sorcery character. I highly recommend this comic!

Many crossovers like this tend to feel forced and hollow but Gail Simone does a good job of having these two characters fit together without them losing their personalities.

A fun read but not great literature.

To my total astonishment, Gail managed to bring two disparate universe together seamlessly. Not the typical Conan tale, and not ever having read Wonder Woman, I couldn't comment. But this was a really good story. As was the art.

This book is an interesting travelogue through some of the world's poorest communities that also produce coffee. While it certainly gets into some of the efforts to improve conditions for the producers, the book does not really try to make the case for Fair Trade coffee in any meaningful way. Rather, it tells the story of one person's experiences in some of the faraway places our coffee comes from and puts faces on some of the obscure foreign names we see on the labels of our coffee beans.I walked away from this book feeling more in touch with my daily cup of coffee, thankful for the efforts of the farmers, and hopeful that their lives are improving. I did not, however, come away with a substantially improved understanding of Fair Trade coffee or why I should purchase fair trade beans over the beans I already purchase. I bought the book expecting to learn about the industry and was a little disappointed in that respect.With that understanding, Javatrekker is a fantastic book that gives us a glimpse into the lives of the coffee farmers and leaves the reader with a deep sense of appreciation for their morning cup of joe.

There is a reason Dean just won a Nobel Prize!I have to admit that I am biased since Dean is local to my community. But he did get a Nobel Prize. So it isn't just us local people who think he has done great things!

As an avid drinker of coffee, this book exposed me to the world of coffee that I was never exposed to before. Dean does a great job of narrating his experience with coffee farmers from all over the world, and you will most definitely enjoy tagging along to his journey.

A well-written and compelling book! Dean Cycon confirms our commitment to buy only Fair Trade coffee, and he does so by combining profoundly serious issues with a delightful sense of humor.

Fascinating book with amazing details about the international coffee market, as well as the different types of plants on which coffee grows, the climate & soil conditions where it thrives and explanations of how & why coffe from one place is so different in taste to coffee grown in another place.

I learned nothing about Fair Trade,but I sure learned a lot about Dean and how grateful the many cultures of the world are to Dean, for being Dean. I thought the writing was fairly poor, the self absorbed, self congratulatory "storytelling" was over the top and I didn't even think it was a very good travelogue. I've read many better books about coffee and the effect that the systems that are in place have on the farmers. I couldn't even get all the way through the book. I was really disappointed.

This is the most important book you can purchase to understand dyslexia. My husband and I both listened to the book in our automobiles within months of hearing our daughter was diagnosed with dyslexia. I quickly purchased the hard copy, and completely highlighted important points, and took notes! notes! notes!!! I refer to these notes and this book almost every week to make sure I stay on target for her reading and writing education. One thing that I refer to all of the time is about 15 techniques/exercises this book mentions to use. Our school already has used this book as the foundation of it's special reading program for a number of years. It is an award-winning school. As suggested in this book, we had our daughter tutored last summer 3 times a week by an experienced tutor who uses a dyslexia-approved curriculum listed in this book. We continued to follow this book's recommendations all year. Results will absolutely vary, but my daughter has gone from the bottom 5% in reading at her grade level (in other words, she couldn't read) to the 60th percentile of her grade level (she can now read signs, menus, directions, books). She still has a way to go, but she can now read and write! This is the foundational book to help! A friend of mine also used the book's suggestions without hiring a tutor, (she tutored him herself as best she could) but switched her son to a school that used dyslexia-approved curriculum, with an experienced teacher (as suggested by this book) and her son's reading jumped two grade levels, from a pre-1st grade level to entry third grade level in one year.

As a parent of three children with dyslexia (aka Auditory Processing Disorder, aka Specific Language Impairment) this book is like the "bible" for dyslexia. It is well-researched and written in layman's language. And most importantly, it is based on science. I first purchased this book when it came out in 2003 when my daughter was diagnosed at age 8. I have loaned it out several times to other parents who were searching for answers. And believe me most problems students have in school by far are "reading" problems and the overwhelming problem is dyslexia (and other names other therapists use instead of the "D" word). And that is based on science as well. How do I know? Just read this book. Effective advocacy begins with an informed parent.

Must read for every teacher and parent. Just a must read. Our brains are not hard wired to read, and while most people pick it up over time with patience and support, there are some kids for whom this approach does not work, and that is who this book was written to help.Even if you are an adult who struggled with reading, it can help you. Please read, share, and encourage.

I'm not sure whether or not my 7 year old granddaughter is dyslexic, but in the middle of 1st grade, she began to receive help from a reading specialist at her school 3 times per week. When she was younger, she loved books. Starting 1st grade, she did not want to read at all. She excels in math and loves school in general, but I was afraid she would become so frustrated by her difficulty with reading that she would "turn off" to school. I found this book to be thorough. Although my granddaughter doesn't demonstrate all the symptoms described, she does exhibit some. Ihave been implementing suggestions offered and purchased several of the book series recommended. My granddaughter is improving her reading fluency and is increasing her self-confidence. I would heartily recommend this book to anyone who has a child that is finding reading a chore!

The book helps one to understand dyslexia in more layman's language than a lot of other books and sites on the internet. The author gives a hands on approach to helping the child, with word lists and mile markers /how to assess the child yourself and to 'test' for specific ages and grades. In that way it has been a very useful book.Decoding words is what the basis of the book is and it does help with challenges when put into practice.They point out all the different facets of dyslexia and the emotional strategies for their well being which is hugely important.Many of the places they advise you to contact for guidance and help is not really helpful for the most part because they are places that charge and assess the child, still leaving one kind of hanging out there wondering what to do anyway.What little information you acquire from the testers and teaching facilities, it still leaves you not quite knowing if they are what you child needs. The costs can be rather high by the time you might or might not know if you have chosen the correct help for YOUR child.It is a financial gamble you have to be willing to take. I have applied a lot of techniques from the book, but it is not a one size fits all program,just like people. It is the second semester right now and it has made a difference to the second grader I am working with. I give it four stars as it's recommendations and referrals for help are not really helpful or very accessible for moderate incomes, which he never explained or rated them and some of them are not even in business any longer.

Dyslexia runs in my family and this book gave me so much information on how to see signs of dyslexia, what to do, as well as hope for a dyslexic child! I think all elementary teachers should read it as well as any parent with a struggling reader. It really helped me!

This is an excellent book and I bought it to use in conjunction with Shaywitz's great movie on dyslexia. Really helps us understand what's going on in the dyslexic brain, how to assist and provides tremendous hope.

This is a great book. It was the textbook for a course I took, but it's a great overview. If you have a child or student with dyslexia, this book will be very helpful. I also found the audiobook version online, for a very affordable price. I read some of it and listened to some of it.

Great intro on how to draw manga for beginners. Eyes, hair, faces, clothes and everything else. I'm a graphic designer and normally do not draw any cartoon or manga figures but i might try in the near future.
