This book is a great resource for software development interviews or if you just want to blow off some steam and solve some fun puzzles. In many software interviews you will be asked to devise an algorithm to solve a problem or execute an objective. This book is by no means an exhaustive list of algorithmic puzzles that you'll encounter in interviews, but it does have several classic puzzles, as well as a number of puzzles I've never seen before. The puzzles themselves are very fun to solve and they'll get your brain thinking algorithmically. There's also great advice and information about how to devise systems to solve common problems using algorithms, so even if the challenges you're given in an interview aren't in this book you'll be studied up on how to devise your own systems for solving problems.One notable omission is the Tower of Hanoi puzzle, that is a classic and I suggest you look it up if you enjoy this type of thing. Overall I think this book is great for software developers looking to get into mental shape for interviewing, but don't think that you have to be a computer science major to enjoy this book. The puzzles are just plain fun to solve, and the skills you will acquire when learning to devise algorithms are certainly applicable in other fields. I highly recommend this book to any developers looking for a mental workout before an interview or anyone that just likes fun, challenging puzzles.

I bought this book on sight. It's possibly my favorite book of any and all books I own. The puzzles are not only ubiquitous and exciting... they're educational and provide many "Aha!" moments. I've been looking for a book like this for years, and I recommend it to those looking for fun and challenging puzzles of varying difficulty levels. Being a computer science major, many of the puzzles are also fun to implement and solve using programming, emphasizing the "algorithmic" component in the title.Buy this book!!

This is a very good book. Among many techniques used in math and in puzzles, algorithmic type of proofs exist for problems where the problem state either directly involves an algorithm or the problem state can be used to derive an algorithm. Algorithms of this sort have certain properties like some quantity either strictly increases, or strictly decreases, or it remains constant etc. Observations of what happens to such quantities can lead to solution of such problems.Good thing is that it has hints and solutions which are given in separate sections so that if you cannot solve it using hints, you can look at the solutions later. Highly recommended for people interested in problem solving.

Good book, great intro to algorithms to help beginners start thinking the right way. Helps on how to approach algorithms.I recommend it to programmers of all levels.

This book is not an introductory book to algorithms or a general algorithmic book in the computer science paradigm. But it contains loads of puzzles which you can understand, solve using a pen and a paper and apply the same in your favorite programming language. The book is written in a very clear and crisp way. For someone who loves brain teasers this book is a must have in their collection. Also it would be of immense help for anyone preparing for interviews on algorithms.

i love the "hints" section. just a nudge in the right direction or at least affirmation that you're on the right path to the solution. haven't gone through the entire book yet, but some of the easy problems are quite challenging and have elegant solutions.

Took this book camping. Very clever puzzles from one of the best professors I ever had. This book is a great learning tool.

More than I ever wanted to know about puzzle analysis. Interesting to see all the logic behind the design. Highly recommended for the puzzle-minded.

This is a really good baking book. It has recipes from a "Jewish" bakery that was in Savannah, GA.I purchased the "original" edition 24 years ago while on my honeymoon, in Savannah. This is a newer edition of the exact same cookbook with the EXACT SAME recipes!!! The only difference between the older version and this newer one is 3 photographs and the binding!! The older version has been out of print for many years and I have seen it posted on Amazon for $130.00!! To all the people who did not get a chance to buy the original edition - this IS your chance to own an excellent baking book. This 2nd version would not have been released if it's recipes were just mediocre and there was no interest!!!I have made several cake recipes and the sprinkle cookies. These were really good and actually brought back fond memories of the baked goods I loved as a child from the Jewish Bakeries' in Detroit, MI.!

I lived in Savannah for 11 years. I LOVED Gottlieb's Bakery. Their baked goods were the best I have ever eaten. So, when I found the cookbook online, I was ever so happy! One of my favorites at Gottlieb's was the Almond Crescents. It was not in the book. :( Also, for the price, I guess I expected more. I haven't tried the recipes yet. But if they are true to the original recipes, then I'm sure they are delicious!The main reason for my 3-star rating is the fact that I ordered three cookbooks (listed as "in stock") on December 10 and didn't receive them until after the new year. I guess I was being punished for not paying extra money for expedited shipping. It's not like these cookbooks are in great demand.

I'll admit, I'm not unbiased. My Mother's Mother was the younger sister of Aunt Jennie Gottlieb.So the Gottlieb Bakery Cookbook is the Family Cookbook!I do miss the hand drawn illustrations that came with the original plastic comb book. But I'm still glad I can pass these recipes on to family and friends.PS A friend just made the Hammentashen cookies for Purim and has advised me that they are delicious. ;)

First, the recipe that you are probably looking for are Chocolate Chews. And after you find it, there's a note from the author, something like "you probably won't make it right, no one can. Please don't call with questions "What am I doing wrong?"". Well, how can you publish such a bad written recipe, poor instructions and a scary note. I decided to give it a try and it was an absolute fail. I tried other recipes too, awful. This is not what you are looking for. Apparently they don't want to give out their recipes.

As a kid I used to go trick or treating at the bakery. The family lived above the bakery and always had delicious treats for Halloween. My favorite bread was their Vienna bread, along with the cheese spread they made.

Not as many recipes as I would have expected to see in a cook book.

I was happy to find this cookbook in your collection. Gottlieb's Bakery is no longer in business, and my childhood memories of the bakery are preserved in this cookbook. It arrived wrapped well and I am loving it!

My sister had a copy of this, and I borrowed it constantly. When she died, that book was absent from her extensive collection. I was glad to be able to obtain a copy.
